-valis Pick of the Week
Hail Voyagers! Time marches on, 'twas ever thus. New week, New Pick: from Leicester, England, Children of Leir! A duo comprised of Gregg Hunt and Stuart Gray, they're causing quite a stir in the psychedelic community as more people get turned on to their self-described "motorik-driven, mystyical- horror infuenced, psychedelic folk pop" sounds. Their debut is available via their Bandcamp page.
Six tracks which do exactly what they say it will do. A rarity these days. Or, as our friend The Active Listener states -quite well:
"The repetitious motorik rhythms lend the whole affair a somewhat hypnotic quality and the songs themselves are growers, not showers, subtle earworms that take time to burrow through to the subconsious and graduate from "great sound" to "great song", but get there they certainly do." It's a rare bird: an album's worth of material which never overstays and retains interest from first to last. Perfect sequencing, too, imho. I suppose living in Mangold Parva will do that. Or, being by the River Soar.
Looking forward to their future efforts!
