Hail Voyagers! Our Pick this week comes from the area known for its forest denizens, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. (Dennis Moore?) From Nottingham, The Cult of Dom Keller! Their newest album, The Second Bardo, is out -in "oxblood and bottle-green" vinyl, on the Cardinal Fuzz label. A reputable, discerning label, to be sure.

Full of the fire and swagger which brought so much attention to their debut just a year ago, The Second Bardo is as relentless as the spiritual states we may all have to pass through. Unlike said states, you can listen in this life and get full enjoyment from their effort. Ryan, Neil, Jason, and Joe, have drunk from the still-flowing river of that late '60s-early '70s branch where a right good pummeling jumped out of the grooves. (Thankfully they seem to have eschewed all the hair and platform shoes.) To quote a snippet of the review by Simon Delic on the Backseat Mafia site:
" ...Cult of Dom Keller has retained many of the tropes that made the first album so successful in my eyes, but has developed its music. The band sound more confident and have channelled that into a tighter set without losing the essential chaos in their music. So the elements are still all there, the mysterious nature of the vocals – imagine Ian Curtis shouting through a megaphone; the heavy (really heavy) fuzzy guitar; the swirling organ weaving its way through the songs and coming up for air every so often; and the deep bass which really pounds from the speakers as the needle digs into the vinyl."

Hail Voyagers! New week, new Pick! From Nottingham, England, (the East Midlands,) Cult of Dom Keller!
From a band who have gone on record as stating their mission is “To document our hallucinations into sonic impressions”, they do that and then some on their self-titled debut long player, out now on Mannequin Records.

One wonders at the various and sundry hallucinogens consumed to create such a document. They manage escape velocity. Quickly! Send some our way! Intrigued?


Whatever the sources of their chemical swirls, we're happy they're in the keller and making new music! Keep it coming!
