-valis Pick of the Week

Hail Voyagers!!!
Back in action for a new year's worth of Picks. Hope you're ready. Our first Pick of 2014 is an album which came out late November of last year but I'm just now getting around to it; (there's a lot more, too!) From The (infamous) House of Vibes in New Jersey, it's The Grip Weeds! Their latest release is an assemblage of thank-the-lords-they-did-THAT collection of tracks culled from their own archives, titled Inner Grooves (Rare And Under-Released Tracks).

Spanning nearly 20 years of history, with tracks such as "In Waking Dreams (First Version)," first recorded and released in 1995 on a compilation called Tomorrow's Pebbles Today, to the unedited, full 11-minutes-plus glory of "Sun Ra Ga," (edited into two parts for their 2010 Rainbow Quartz effort, Strange Change Machine,) it's a full-on peek behind the curtain of a band that has consistently satisfied. As the liner notes aptly put it:
"...a privileged trip through the archives that puts you on the inside of the circle. Short of actually being in the band, you'd have to be a super fan to have some of these tracks, or as our good friend and music archivist Tommy DeShulve says 'some of you may have some of these; some of you may have none of these; but none of you has all of these'"...

Their cover of The Electric Banana's "It'll Never Be Me" is priceless and only came out as a b-side to a 2001 CD single. Don't hesitate on this one. My tip.THANK YOU GRIP WEEDS!!!

You can listen to the archived stream here; or, hear it this Friday, on The Dead Man's Turn Me On, Dead Man show on Live365, where it's heard every Friday at noon eastern time, as well as Mr. Atavist's Sunrise Ocean Bender show, heard every other Thursday from 11 pm to 1 am eastern, on WRIR in Richmond, VA.

Note:
Adding the Pick of the Week to their show is Dogs Got A Bone out of Edinburgh, Scotland, from 10pm to midnight, Mondays, U.K. time, (adjust accordingly,) on Belter Radio. Thanks Col Chant!
