-valis Pick of the Week

Hail Voyagers! It's that time again. After a first hour of the radio show filled to bursting with candidates for "Top 5 British Psych-Pop Tracks," we were excited to air this week's Pick:

The Sails, essentially a one-man (but what a guy!) band: Michael Gagliano, have just released their new album, A Headful Of Stars, on Rainbow Quartz.

As the RQ site says: "...seamlessly channel the energies of Cotton Mather, The Hollies, The Posies, The Byrds and Apples In Stereo into their own breed of power-pop.

Headful of Stars sees them once again delivering a collection of songs with timeless songwriting dressed with intricately arranged vocals and instrumentation, covered with The Sails' immense, brilliant guitar sound. Many times, firmly grounded in the infectious pop of the 60s, The Sails lace each of their pop confections here with enough backing harmonies, percussion, jangles and warmth of reverb. "I'm Only Bleeding" and "Travel" drip with sitars, yet are grounded with rocking rhythm and guitars. In "Dogs", the Byrds and Hollies meet The La's in Revolver-esque fashion. The album features both jangly and aggressive guitar attacks throughout, evoking Oasis and even Humble Pie, or Spacemen 3 channeling the Beatles." (Ed: emphasis added.)

You can listen to the archived stream here; or, hear it this Friday, Nov. 12th,on The Dead Man's Turn Me On, Dead Man show on Live365, where it's heard every Friday at noon eastern time, as well as Mr. Atavist's Sunrise Ocean Bender show, heard every Friday from 3 to 6am eastern, on WRIR in Richmond, VA.
