-valis Pick of the Week

Hail Voyagers! (Apologies for the tardiness of the post.)Our Pick this week: Helsinki's Black Lizard! Their new album, Solarize, is out via Soliti.

Joni Seppänen, Paltsa-Kai Salama, Onni Nieminen and Lauri Lyytinen, recapture -or continue, the swagger and venom of their 2013 debut, (which included one of my personal favorite tracks of the year: "Fucking Up",) by giving us a veritable hornet's nest of stinging tracks on this effort. Beginning with "Everything And Nothing," on through to the finale, "Shine High," the album is laden with spot-the-influence brilliance, imho. I hear Stones-like blues on "Helpless," and Screamadelica-era Primals on the aforementioned closer. Perhaps a pinch of what makes Singapore Sling so infectious, too...try it. Recommended. Highly.
