-valis Pick of the Week

Hail Voyagers! Another Week, another Pick. This time from the Northwest of the U.S., Seattle to be exact: The Purrs!
Though this is their seventh LP released since forming and I'm still mystified how they're under the radar by the psychedelic adepts & connoisseurs. Their newest release, The Boy With Astronaut Eyes, is out now on Fin Records.

The album held my rapt attention, Sennheisers sizzling, over the course of the ten tracks while my brain was making connections -real & imagined, as I sat listening and scribbling notes to self all along. I realize I may be alone on this, but give it a try sometime and tell me if you hear -at least in the lyrical cadence, The Lemon Pipers' "Green Tambourine" in track three, "Rotting On The Vine." "The Fire Next Door" sounds to me like Camper Van Beethoven if David Lowery was in full-on acid doseage; while "Fade Away" may be the best track, (and most intelligible,) the Jesus & Mary Chain never recorded!
Like so many bands I could name name-drop as sadly underknown, The Purrs should enjoy more. More success. More discussion over their back catalog. More free drinks whenever they venture out. Why? Because when it comes to them and their music: I WANT MORE! (And so shall you if you give 'em a chance.)

(Go here for a taste of the entire album.)

Jason, Craig, Liz, and Jima will hold their Record Release show on June 28th, at Barboza, in Seattle. May it swell to bursting in celebration of the band and this new album!

Hail the new PURRS'ian Empire! ***
You can listen to the archived stream here; or, hear it this Friday, on The Dead Man's Turn Me On, Dead Man show on Live365, where it's heard every Friday at noon eastern time, as well as Mr. Atavist's Sunrise Ocean Bender show, heard every Monday from 1 to 3 am eastern, on WRIR in Richmond, VA.
