The Wayback Machine

Hello all! Another Monday, another episode of The Wayback Machine!
Our guest sojourner knows all about travel as he's been doing quite a bit of it lately in support of his new album, "Circular Sounds", Kelley Stoltz...
The new album, Kelley's fifth, has been receiving lots of eartime here at the CPPP,and points from New Zealand to the Winter Palace in Russia. (Probably even further into the wilds of Russia than we know of. He's popular in strange places. He's popular with strange people. Hell, the guy's just flat out popular! Rightly so, too.)

After finally making his way home for a brief respite early next month the band hits the airways, or tramp steamer, to do a set of dates in the UK:

May 14 Brighton, England - Great Escape Festival UNCUT Stage
May 17 Dublin, Ireland - Crawdaddy
May 18 Glasgow, Scotland - Nice and Sleazy
May 19 Liverpool, England - Barfly
May 20 London, England - Borderline UNCUT Night

(I know a friend in Glesga' who should get his arse out for that night!)

Anyway, where's Kelley going now:

You've been given a one-time opportunity to use The Wayback Machine; what band would you like to see, in what year, and what song would you most want to see them play?

Kelley: Howlin' Wolf and band with Willie Dixon, Otis Spann, Hubert Sumlin, Lee Cooper & Earl Phillips... playing "No Place To Go" at a sweaty Mississippi club early 50's.

Safe journeys, Kelley!

Gosh, Mr. Valis, anudder one of my musical heroes graces yr pages - I just sent Kelley a fan letter on his myspace a couple of weeks ago congratulating him on what i've heard from the new album and, of course, offering my undying adulation of his reimagining of the first bunnymen album. That said, I am pretty shocked by his wayback selection - although perhaps I shouldn't be considering the way he brought the blues angle into said echo project. Good to see the world is giving such props to Kelley - as Mr. Dixon himself wrote, you need love....

Inspired selection! What a great feature this is.

Ah, what a tasteful choice for the wayback machine! One wishes one could say "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose", but the truth is, things *have* changed, slipped, fallen. Most of us usually fall short of reaching back that far, and yet we ought to...for in that sepia past lies something more real than that which lives in our present.
