-valis Pick of the Week

Hail Voyagers! Our choice for Pick this week calls the Gothia Fortress home, from Gothenburg, Sweden, The Movements!
They've just released Like Elephants 2, their follow-up to last year's Like Elephants 1, on Crusher Records. (And, soon, on new U.S. label, Sunrise Ocean Bender!)

Bookends of a pair, both albums work together -or apart, as intended. Going from strength to strength, Like Elephants 2 finds the band utilizing a wide palette of sonics, whether it be late '60s-early '70s hard rock or that oft-used "Laurel Canyon" vibe. As Rockfreaks-dot-net put it:
" As a whole, "Like Elephants 2" is absolutely a quality pair of headphones type of an album. The expansive space rock soundscapes and immersive psychedelia need to be experienced in a setting that allows the music to engulf its listener for best effect. I fear that a standard 2-set speaker setup won't do it, but with great headphones or with surround sound the album truly comes to life - retro fans will find loads to like here. " (More here.)
There's much to love about this effort. In some ways, in my mind, they - The Movements, are filling a void left behind by Ebbott & Co. It may be too early to call them heirs apparent, but they're on the right path.
