-valis Pick of the Week

Hail Voyagers! We're featuring a somewhat shorter voyage, though nonetheless thrilling: from Adelaide, Australia, Ride Into the Sun! They've just released a six track thing they're calling (a) Mini LP, out on new label, Pilot Records.

Call it whatever you like; I call it damned good. No surprise Alex Maas of The Black Angels had a hand in it, as well as producer Brett Orrison. While their fingerprints are all over the sound, the band prove they CAN INDEED hang with the big dogs. With their own seats on that porch of your mind. "Hero" is the standout track for me, but I could just as easily have typed in "Gun Song" or "Hunt Like Wolves." They all work. I've read where quite a lot of material came out of the recording sessions at Toyland Studios in Melbourne last Fall. We're just starting to see the fruits of those sessions. Me, I'm ready for a whole basket of it! Give a listen here.

You can listen to the archived stream here; or, hear it this Friday, on The Dead Man's Turn Me On, Dead Man show on Live365, where it's heard every Friday at noon eastern time, as well as Mr. Atavist's Sunrise Ocean Bender show, heard every Monday from 1 to 3 am eastern, on WRIR in Richmond, VA.
