Hail Voyagers! Our Pick this week has been burning up my Sennheisers of late, in repeated assaults on my cranial spaces: from Montreal, Elephant Stone!
Having just released their sophmore self-titled album, out now, via Hidden Pony & The Reverb Appreciation Society, the band have certainly created a serious contender -even at this early stage, for a Top Ten album of 2013. It's seared my brain with unforgettable musicianship and indelible songs I'm rather sure will hold their own for quite an age. From the opener, "Setting Sun", through "Heavy Moon", and "Masters Of War", Rishi & Co. deliver quite a one-two-three punch with a flurry. The album really catches fire, (for me,) by track seven's instrumental "Sally Go Round The Sun" to the sheer swirling maelstrom that is "The Sea of Your Mind."
"Love The Sinner, Hate The Sin" gives me pause to reconsider Rishi's songwriting contributions to his former band, The High Dials. Witness:
